DeKalb Court Records Search Channels

For Circuit Court and District Court records, the first online channel is Alacourt ACCESS and Just One Look. The official DeKalb Circuit Clerk page identifies Just One Look as the public route for most trial-court information and notes that required fees apply. That system covers Alabama state trial-court records, including civil, domestic, criminal, and traffic case categories. It is separate from the DeKalb Probate Records Application, the Fort Payne Municipal Court payment portal, the sheriff's jail roster, and federal PACER.

The county fallback is the DeKalb Circuit Clerk's records-search and copy request process. The request form is for DeKalb County Circuit and District Court records only. It does not supply federal, municipal, other-county, other-state, probate, jail, or driver records. A search works better with a case number, full party name, date of birth, alias, division, approximate year, and certification choice.

The official Circuit Court page is the local source for general-jurisdiction trial matters, while District Court remains a lower-court record category for misdemeanors, preliminary felony proceedings, traffic, small claims, evictions, and lower-dollar civil actions.

1. Decide whether the record is Circuit Court, District Court, Probate Court, Municipal Court, sheriff custody, state driver history, or federal court.
2. Use Alacourt or Just One Look for state trial-court case information by name, case number, county, court, and case type.
3. Use the Circuit Clerk request form when copies, certification, archived material, or staff-assisted search work is needed.
4. Use the Probate Records Application for probate, recording, UCC, lien, book/page, marriage index, and probate index material.
5. Confirm restricted, sealed, juvenile, adoption, or expunged records with the court because public search systems may omit them.

DeKalb Court Records Search Fields

Alacourt's public shell and official descriptions identify several fields used to locate DeKalb County court records. Types of DeKalb Court Records

DeKalb County court records vary by court level. What DeKalb Court Records Show

Common DeKalb County court record fields include the case number, division, party names, filing date, charge or case type, court, judge, docket entries, scheduled hearings, motions, orders, judgments, bond and fine entries, clerk notices, subpoenas, and disposition. Alacourt records may include a case action summary and document images when available. The Circuit Clerk's form asks for specific information requested, case numbers, identifying information, certification choice, requester contact details, and the total amount due.

DeKalb Court Records Access Rules

Alabama public access begins with Ala. Code Section 36-12-40, which gives citizens the right to inspect and copy public records unless another law creates an exception. Ala. Code Section 36-12-41 allows public officers to provide copies upon request and payment of lawful fees. Those statutes support public access, but they do not override juvenile confidentiality, adoption restrictions, sealing orders, expungement orders, or required redactions.

The Circuit Clerk request form lists the county's practical fee schedule. A computerized records search is $10 per name. An archived or microfilmed search is $25. Clerk examination of paper records is $20. The first 20 pages of paper or electronic copies are $5, each additional page is $0.50, each certification is $5, and color photos or color copies are $5 each. The form says personal checks are not accepted, payment does not guarantee results, fees are not refunded, and requesters should allow two weeks.

Restricted DeKalb Court Records

Public access is not absolute. Juvenile court records are controlled by Ala. Code Section 12-15-133, and DeKalb juvenile files should not be searched like adult civil or criminal dockets. Adoption records and hearings are restricted under Alabama adoption law. Sealed and expunged records are not ordinary public lookup results. Social Security numbers, financial account data, minor names, victim details, medical information, mental-health details, and similar personal data may be redacted.

For restricted records, the practical path is to identify the case, court, parties, and filing or disposition date, then ask the court that holds the file what authority is needed. A party, attorney, agency, or person with a court order may have access that the public does not. Expungement requests require a separate court process and depend on charge type, disposition, timing, prior history, and Alabama statutory criteria.
